Matthew is Chairman of the Technical & Sustainability Committee and is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee. Matthew was appointed to the Board on 2 February 2026. 

Experience and expertise

Matthew has 35 years’ experience in the upstream oil and gas sector, spanning technical, operational, and corporate roles. With more than 30 years at BHP Petroleum and, more recently, as Executive Vice President, Projects at Woodside Energy, he has built a strong reputation for delivering complex capital projects in challenging environments. He has overseen significant global developments, including work on Mexico’s first deepwater project, Trion, and delivery of the Sangomar project, enabling Senegal’s inaugural offshore oil production. In Australia, Matthew had direct oversight of the Scarborough Energy Project and has extensive experience in the Victorian Otway and Gippsland Basins.
